With heart, humor, and a lot of enthusiasm, I help you become the artist you’ve always wanted to be—or never knew you could be.

As a child, I was surrounded by creative people!
We loved to make each other laugh, drawing comics for each other, adding to each other's creations, impressing each other with our skills, enjoying those among us who lacked skills yet participated anyway.
As we got older, my favorite thing to do was facilitate art games with large gatherings. Giving people the structure to let their own voices come out in a crowd.
I loved the glow someone would get when they nailed it, and the laughs we’d share in failure too!
I realized something: My passion for art games could be powerful as a tool in teaching art.
It was natural for me: create a framework for someone to understand fundamental techniques, grasp the concepts, and build skills, then set them free to create!
My mom, who ran a highly impactful preschool, was my first inspiration as a teacher. She taught with structure and love, creating an environment where kids thrived.
In high school, she encouraged me to teach my own art classes to elementary students, and I immediately knew I had found my calling.
I discovered that there was magic in the way the right words, metaphors, or small technical demonstrations could spark a student’s understanding in profound ways.
I pursued art and education further, earning my Master of Fine Arts degree so that I might teach at the college level. Along the way, though, I started to have the feeling that my own philosophy on teaching didn’t fit within traditional systems.
I wanted to create a space entirely focused on my students and their goals. So, I went independent, opening Whistling Studios.
Over time, I learned that art doesn’t have to be about perfection or pushing for excellence at all costs. It’s about healing, empowerment, and engaging with your world in a playful, meaningful way.
I now teach “lifestyle art practices,” helping people integrate art into their lives as a source of growth, joy, and creativity.
My Approach
I teach towards an idea I call a “Lifestyle Art Practice.” It’s the idea that you can live a more empowered life by creating art mindfully, playfully, and regularly. And if you are already an active artist, it’s the idea that naturally stimulating your curiosity might be the key to your professional growth.
I believe in the power of art to reconnect you with your deep self. Here’s how I help you do that:
"The BEST class I have ever taken!! Keith is so knowledgeable, patient, positive, and encouraging. I learned so much, and had a blast! I recommend this class to anyone, at any level!"
